Welcome

Welcome to Karatela.Com

Thanks for visiting, this site is being updated. The information about the Domain – Karatela.Com is featured here. Website development started in 1993 with the domain registration officially established in 1996. Great transformation has occurred since then and this is just one attempt to capture things since 1993 in the realm of Internet, WWW, CMS, HTML, CSS, PHP, Blog authoring. When there was no Internet Explorer, no Microsoft site, the Yahoo consisted of just few pages of lists of websites etc.

Along the way, there have been browsers, codes, software and the personalities have come and gone. New fashions and trends have emerged and disappeared all-together. Information technology is at the finger tips of almost everyone these days. Data mining, data consumptions and data manipulation is simply mind-boggling. What I see it in this realm, I feel it is just the beginning … More on this soon

For now all information on the apps I have developed please seeĀ Karatela Apps

Around Florida in 8 days

Around Florida in 8 days was a trip we took in 2009. The idea of taking a trip around the whole coastal line of the state of Florida. Starting from Southeastern Florida going north to Jacksonville then across the north of Florida to Panama City and Pensacola, Florida then south to Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater to Fort Meyers, FL then across the Alligator Alley to south Florida down to the Key West, Florida and back up north to complete the circle around the coastal line of Florida.

Established in 1996

The domain name registration became available for public not too long ago. The [.Com] domain just became available. Prior to that mostly we dealt with [.edu]. It was fairly easy to get your domain name as you want. The domain name war and business was unheard off. There was only one registrar for the domain, that is Network Solutions. To get Karatela.Com was quite easy.

The web-hosting was also becoming available. I remember there was a company out of Atlanta by the name of Web2010 offering unlimited web hosting accounts on the Unix system. This is where we had our first official website. I mainly used for creating my Dow alumni website and transferred the website from Emory University server to this domain. Dow Alumni Website was first created on the Emory University Servers in 1993, the first of any Pakistani Institutions website on the internet and first to be listed in the Yahoo. The Yahoo Website at that time was just a few pages of lists of Websites Directory started by these two young students from Stanford University.

From the Start

After finishing the Internal Medicine residency I needed to get “research experience” to get into cardiology fellowship program. For this to happen I needed to convince the people in the Cardiology department of Emory University that I was seriously interested in full-time research. I contacted Dr. William Weintraub who at that time the was the director/incharge of Emory Cardiovascular Databank and Research. Probably the only cardiologist who knew more about the computer programming than anyone else in the country.

Dr. Weintraub was using Informix 4 gl on the Unix workstation and BMDP statistical software for its statistical calculations and and generation of data. He became my mentor and directed me into computer programming and database management.

The Blue Book of Unix OS

As a Cardiology research fellow at the Emory University under Dr. Weintraub I was first exposed to Unix OS in 1993. Started with a book on Unix Operating system which was about 450 pages and working on the Unix workstation learned the basic Unix Shell commands and by following examples in database programing enhanced my interest in computer programing.
